Artistic Director

To all of our beloved patrons, volunteers, artists, and the whole community that surrounds our activities at the Stephenville Theatre Festival, I offer a most heartfelt “Welcome Back!” What a year we have all been through.  Difficult, isolating and sometimes scary, this year has also offered me some quiet moments of reflection.  In this “pause”…in these quiet moments, I have been reminded that the sharing of hope and inspiration through storytelling is so vitally important.  I have missed live theatre dearly; I have missed the community that it creates and the community that surrounds it. I love making theatre because I believe it keeps us awake and conscious.  I love it because when we are working with our hearts, guts and heads engaged, the world responds back with care, empathy and enthusiasm.  So, it is with that enthusiasm that I am thrilled we are coming back for an exciting 43rd season.  I have missed every one of you and I cannot wait to see you at the theatre and in the community.

During the past year, while we, as well as most theatre’s worldwide, were forced to cease our presentations, I turned my focus towards working with playwrights. Together we continued to work on developing theatre that you will have the pleasure of viewing at STF in the near future.

I am so excited to at last be presenting our new play “To the Girls”! It was developed through research and interviews that were conducted right here in the Bay St. George community.  I cannot wait for you to see the history of our area reflected back to you from the mainstage of the theatre.

As the Artistic Director of the festival I have always been amazed at the amount of support we receive from our community. I would like to personally thank all of our sponsors and supporters, as well as our audience for investing in, and supporting live theatre. Your support is so needed and appreciated.  We literally cannot do it without you.

The time I have spent at STF has been a period of exciting artistic growth, not only for myself but also for the festival. While the production of exciting theatre is the heart of who we are and what we do, our creative mentorship programmes, the STF Young Company, our new community theatre branch The STF Players, and our audience engagement activities also help to make STF an important cultural resource within the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who come together to make our festival possible.  The board of directors, administrative staff, and the artists that work diligently in creation, production and performance all come together to make an incredible community that I am very proud to be a part of creating.

For me, the theatre is a space that fosters collaboration, process, innovation and communication. I have always believed that live theatre has a very special and completely unique way of bringing people together to share and experience a moment in time. This year has only cemented that belief.  There is nowhere that I would rather be than sharing the theatre with you, and so again I exclaim “Welcome Back!”  It is my absolute pleasure to say the words…

“Enjoy the Show!”
